Michael Chastain – Culver Academies

Coach Chastain coached Alex Banfich and Waverly Neer to outstanding high school careers.  Banfich won 8 IHSAA state championships after running in 12 championship races never placing less than 4th.  Neer won 3 state championships her senior year after a runner-up, 5th, and 7th place finishes her junior year in the 1600, 3200, and CC respectively.  She set new state records in the 1600 and 3200 her senior year as well.  Many of his teams have qualified for the state CC meet on the girls and boys sides with the girls finishing 11th in '04. 

 

Steve Kearney - Chesterton

Steve Kearney has coached 45 years total at Chesterton and he is the head of the Cal Striders youth program in Northwest Indiana.  In boys CC: 1 Regional title, 1 Semi State title, 2 team state finalist, 2 all state runners.  In girls CC:  State Runner-up, 6 State team finalists, 7 All state runners.  Also in 5 years as head CC coach, 7 teams in top ten '87 & '98-'01.  In Girls Track: 10 sectional titles, 3 Regional titles, top 10 in the state 5 years in a row 02-06, 6 time nominee for coach of the year, 17 all state runners.  4 x 800: 9 state qualifiers, 5 top 9 finishes, 3 state championships, 3 state records, 1 state runner up

 

Steve Lewark – West Lafayette

Coach Lewark runs an outstanding CC and distance program at 3A West Lafayette High School.  Girls CC (15 years) – 12x Nominee, 6x Recipient IATCCC Coach of the Year, Team: 11 state qualifying, 6 top 5 finishes (including 2012 runner-up), Individuals: 16 All-State, 10 Podium, 1 State Champ, 3 qualifiers; Boys CC (19 years) – 10x Nominee, 4x Recipient IATCCC Coach of the Year, Team: 6 state qualifying, best finish – 8th, Individuals:  4 All-State, 6 qualifiers; Girls Track (17 years – distance asst.) 3200m Relay – 14 State qualifying, 10x Podium, 1 State Champ, #4 all-time (’13), 3200m – 11 qualifiers, 5 podium, 1 State Champ 1600m – 3 qualifiers, 2 podium; 800m – 5 qualifiers, 1 podium; Boys Track (19 years – distance asst.) 3200m Relay – 5 State qualifying, 4 podium; 3200m – 2 qualifiers; 1600m – 7 qualifiers, 3 podium; 800m – 4 qualifiers, 2 podium

 

Alexandra Banfich – Culver Academy

8-Time state champion (5 in track, 3 in CC).  She competed in 12 IHSAA championship races (XC, 1600, 3200) and never finished lower than 4th place.  She advanced to Footlocker national championships 3 years.  NCAA Division 1 All-American at Princeton in cross country 2 times with a best of 5th in '11, and All-American in outdoor track '10.  

 

Lakeesha Burnett – Fort Wayne Northrop

14-Time All-State in Track, only 2 short of the most possible.  2-Time Relay State Champ, 9-Time State Runner-Up (Many times to her teammate), 10 regional championships, 11 sectional championships.  State Finals performances '02 - 100 4th, 4x1 2nd, 4x4 1st; '03 - 100 2nd, 400 2nd, 4x4 1st; '04 - 100 3rd, 200 4th, 400 2nd, 4x4 2nd; '05 - 100 2nd, 200 2nd, 4x1 2nd, 4x4 2nd

 

Shauntel Elcock – Fort Wayne Northrop

5-Time State Champ '02 400 (54.83), '03 400 (53.57) and 200 (24.22), '04 400 (53.94) and 200 (24.76), 2-Time Relay State Champ, 5-Time State Runner-Up, All-State total of 13 times, 11 regional championships, and 13 Sectional Championships.  State Finals performances '02 - 400 1st, 200 2nd, 4x4 1st; '03 - 200 1st, 400 1st, 4x4 1st; '04 -200 1st, 4x1 2nd, 400 1st, 4x4 2nd; '05 - 400 5th, 4x1 2nd, 4x4 2nd

 

Robert Gardner – Gary Lew Wallace

2-time 400 meter state champ ('07, '08) with the 2nd fastest winning time in the state (47.18 seconds) in '07.  Anchored state champ 4 x 400 meter relay in '08. Great Lakes Valley conference’s (GLVC) Male Track Athlete of the year after guiding UIndy to its 4th straight title. Named a 2013 NCAA athlete of the year nominee.

 

Roland Parrish - Hammond

'71 State Champ in 880 at 1:53.10 (second fastest of all time at the time) also 5th in '70

Purdue 1972-1975 all-time record in 1000 2:21.29, 3rd all-time 800 1:48.37,

In 1973 qualified for NCAA in 3 events

 

Rolando Scott – Concordia Lutheran

12-time All-State including state champ in the 100 in '99.  Also 2-time 4x1 relay state champ in '97 with 41.73 and '99 with 41.39.  All-state 4x in 200 – 4th, 3rd, 5th, and 6th; 4x in 4x1 – 1st, 3rd, 1st, 3rd; and 3x in 100 – 4th, 5th, and 1st.  3x qualifier in the long jump placing 5th in '99, and had the best long jump in the country in '99 (24-10.5)

 

De'Sean Turner – Warren Central

2-Time State Champ. In CC placed 3rd in '04, 2nd in '05, and State Champ in '06. Runner-up in the 1600 and 4x800 in '06, runner-up 800 and state champ 1600 in '07.  At IU – 6-time All-American, Big Ten Steeplechase Champ, 2012 Olympic Trials Finalist, and 2013 IAAF World Championships steeplechase semi-finalist. 

 

Andy Weatherford – Greencastle

2-Time state champ 1600, only lost 3 times in the 1600 during HS, 2006 1600 was fastest in state history at the time.  At Indiana University NCAA All-American in the steeplechase, Academic All Big 10 – 4 times

 

Scott Wims – Fort Wayne Northrop

4-Time State Champ – 2 times 200 meters, 1 time 100 meters, and 1 time 4x400 relay.  2-Time NCAA DI All-American in 200 and 400, Pan Am Jr Champ 200 and 4x100 relay.  USA Jr Champ 200 meters, USA World Jr Team, and 5-Time USATF All-American
