2012 IATCCC Hall of Fame Inductees

Nef Araia – Lawrence North Nef was a 3-time IHSAA State Champion. He won cross country titles in 2001 and 2002, becoming the 10^th male athlete to win back to back state titles in Indiana history. He also won a 3200 meter title in 2002 and had a career best of 8:54.58 in high school. In 2002 he was a national champion in the Distance Medley Relay and in 2003 was the national runner up for the 2mile at the Adidas Outdoor Championships. While at Stanford he was a NCAA cross country runner-up in 2006 and a five time All American.
Jerome Harrison – Jeffersonville Jerome was the 1981 IHSAA State Champion in the 100 meters with a state record of 10.27. He also set an Indiana all-time top performance with 10.12 in US Olympic Training Center in 1981 that is still the Indiana all-time best.
Cory Martin – Edgewood Cory was the 2003 IHSAA Discus Champion with a throw of 174' 0". He was also runner-up in the shot put in 2003 with a throw of 61' 8". His high school personal bests were 184' 6" and 63' 1". He was a 9-time NCAA All-American at Auburn University where he is the school record holder in the weight and hammer throw. 76' 5" and 243' 2". He ranked third in the world for shot put in 2010 (72' 6.25").
Elbert Turner – Gary Roosevelt Elbert is Indiana's #1 all-time best hurdler with a 13.40 set in 1986. He was a 3-time IHSAA State Champion. He won the 110 hurdles in 1986 and 1986, and was also runner-up in 1985. He won the 300 low hurdles in 1987 and was second in 1986 as well as third in 1985. His personal best was 36.62. While at the University of Illinois, he won a Big Ten title in the 110 hurdles in 1990 with a 13.68. He was also a member of the Cincinnati Bengals in 1992 and 1993.
Mike Davidson – Ben Davis In 1986, Coach Davidson began his track coaching career at Carmel High School under the tutelage of Chuck Koeppen. As a former collegiate decathlete, Coach Davidson was put in charge of the hurdles, throws, jumps and pole vault. In 1991, Davidson took over as the head coach at Ben Davis High School. During his career, Coach Davidson has coached teams to 16 sectional titles, 7 regional titles and 15 top ten state meet finishes. This includes two 3^rd place finishes and 3 state runner-up team titles. In 2008, Coach Davidson’s Giants won their first ever track state team title. His Giants went on to win the state championship again in 2009 and 2010, along with the first two HSR indoor state championships. Davidson has coached 24 state champions, including seven 4x100 relay state champions, and four 4x400 relay state champions. During his tenure, he has awarded 166 All-State certificates to his athletes. Beyond the state meet, Coach Davidson has had 41 athletes named Indiana All-Stars. He has been selected head coach of the Indiana All-Star team three times. Over his career, Coach Davidson has been an IATCCC Coach of the Year nominee 10 times and was named the IATCCC Coach of the year 3 times.
Karen DeVries – Valparaiso Karen led her cross country teams to 5 IHSAA State Team Championships in 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, and 2004. Her teams have also finished in second place 3 times in 2001, 2002, and 2005. Her cross country teams have qualified for the state meet 22 times during her 25 year coaching career including the last 19 consecutive years. In track, Karen has coached her runners to two individual 1600 meter State Championships, two individual 3200 meter State Championships, and one 3200 meter Relay State Championship.
Steve Edwards – Muncie North Steve coached 3 individual IHSAA State Champions in track and a high school two-time national indoor champion who later became an NCAA national indoor champion at Ball State his freshmen year. He had 4 IHSAA state finalist cross country teams and his 1979 team finished runner-up losing the state meet by 4 points. His track teams finished 6^th in the IHSAA State Meet in 1975 and 1976. He was a 3-time IATCCC Coach of the Year Nominee. He was elected head coach of the Midwest Meet of Champions in 1979 and was an assistant coach in 1978. Steve was also the meet director of indoor high school meets at Ball State for 6 years.
Terry Milton – FW Northrop In Twelve years of coaching at Northrop, Terry has been instrumental in the Bruins winning 7 state titles and 1 runner-up. He has coached 9 individual state champions and 4 relay champions. He’s also had 21 runner-ups, 125 all state athletes, and 7 national champions. His athletes have broken 5 state meet records and currently hold 1. They also hold 4 Indiana All-Time Best Relay Times (4x100, 4x200, 4x400, and Sprint Medley Relay).
Katie Harrington – Carmel Katie was a 3-time IHSAA State Champion. She won the state cross country meet in 2002. In 2003 she won the 1600 meter run in 4:49.38 and the 3200 meter run in 10:27.08. Her 1600 time was a state meet record. She was also runner-up in the Nike Indoor Championships in both the 1600 and 3200. Katie was runner-up at the 2003 Adidas Outdoor Championships in the 3200 with an Indiana all-time best of 10:22.91. Katie was also an All-American at Stanford in 2007. Katie also ran four years at the Cross Country National Championships in Terre Haute resulting in three team titles for Stanford. For those championships Katie and her team received an invite to the White House to meet President Bush.
Cassie Hunt – North Putnam Cassie was the IHSAA State Champion in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:54.43 in 2002. She was the state runner-up in 2003 with a time of 4:53.70. Cassie was an All-American in cross country in 2005 at the University of Illinois. She also earned All-American honors in the 3,000 indoors in 2005. She finished as the NCAA runner-up in the steeplechase in 2005 and 2006. She won the Big Ten in the steeplechase and 5,000 in 2005 when she was name Big Ten Athlete of the Year and Athlete of the Meet.
Tiffany Redlarczyk – Lake Central Tiffany won the 2001 IHSAA State Championship in the 3200 meter run with a 10:46.82. She was runner-up in 2002. She won the IHSAA Mental Attitude Award in 2003. She was runner-up 3-times in cross country – 2000, 2001, 2002. Tiffany also won the Mideast Cross Country Championship in 2002. While at the University of Arkansas, Tiffany was a three-time Southeastern Conference pick and the 2006 SEC Steeplechase Champion.
Robert Buck - Gary Froebel Robert Buck showed great promise as a sophomore (1953) and was ready to become a member of the great Froebel track and field teams, by placing second in the 180 hurdles and ran on the second place 880 relay at the IHSAA State Meet. His junior (1954) year produced a fifth in the 180 hurdles. Then came a great senior (1955) season, winning the 100 yard dash in 9.9, a record in winning the 180 hurdles (19.1) that lasted for eight years and anchored the winning 880 relay. His 36 individual points scored in the state meet ranks him eighty seventh on the All Time IHSAA Scoring List. After high school Robert attended Indiana University and returned to Gary to enter into the real estate and appraisal profession and later became a Fireman. He retired as chief of the Gary Fire Prevention Department. His love for horses, lead him into the racing business as an owner of thoroughbreds.
Lawrence Marks – Wabash High School – 1922 Larry Marks was an exceptionally gifted athlete leading Wabash High School throughout his high school career in football, basketball and track & field. In the 1920 IHSAA State Meet he won the 220 hurdles in 27.0 seconds and tied for second in the pole vault. 1921 looked to be his year, many felt that he would win the 220 hurdles hands down and a state, national and world record was possible. He placed third in the 440 and was leading the 220 hurdles by fifteen yards coming off the turn, when he spiked himself and landed on top of the hurdle and could not continue. Larry did recover in time to take a second in the broad jump. 1922 would produce wins in both the 120 hurdles and 220 hurdles with an IHSAA State Meet record in the 220 hurdles, breaking a thirteen year record. At the National Interscholastic Meet in Chicago he won with a personal record (PR) of 25.2. His high school career was completed by scoring 52.5 points in the IHSAA State Meet which ranks twenty sixth on the All Time State Meet Scoring List. Larry continued his athletic career at Indiana University and became an excellent football player, playing in the East – West Shrine All Star Game and then three years of professional ball with the Akron Indians, New York Yankees, and Green Bay Packers.
Earl Mitchell – Anderson - 1939 Earl Mitchell was one of Hall of Fame Coach Carl Bonge’s long lines of great distance runners. He was the IHSAA State Meet Champion miler in 1938 and 1939, setting a personal record (PR) in the 1939 meet of 4:27.6, bettered only by Bloomington’s Olympian Tom Deckard in 1934. Earl was on Anderson High School cross country team that pioneered the sport before a State Meet. Earl continued his athletic career at Indiana University winning Big Ten indoor and outdoor two mile in 1942 and then World War II interrupted his career until 1946 when again he won the Big Ten two mile championship and a fourth place finish in the NCAA Championship Meet. He also ran on the 1942 and 1946 Big Ten Cross Country Championship team.
Fred Morrow – Wabash High School - 1924 Fred was a five time IHSAA State Meet Champion: he won the 1922,1923 and 1924 high jump with a personal record of 5’11” in the 1923 meet and won the 1923 and 1924 pole vault with an IHSAA State Meet record of 12’3.875” breaking the record by 8.125” and held it for six years. His personal record came in the 1924 National Interscholastic Meet in Chicago when he tied Lee Barnes of Hollywood High School, Hollywood, California at 12’6”. Barnes a high school junior attended the 1924 Olympic Trials in Boston, made the Olympic Team and became the seventh youngest Olympic gold medalist. Fred could not attend due to financial situations, but his five IHSAA Championships rank fourth on the All Time Wins List and thirty fourth on the All Time Point Scored in the State Meet Scoring List with forty nine points.
Matt Ronzone – Elkhart Matt Ronzone graduated from Elkhart High School in 1931, after an outstanding high school career lettering in football (3) making All-State, basketball (2) and track (3) ran on the 880 relay school record team, took his athletic abilities to the University of Notre Dame. While at Notre Dame, he lettered in football and captained the gymnastic team during his junior and senior years, graduating in 1935. Matt then started his coaching career as an assistant at Frankfort High School, under the leadership of the legendary Coach Everett Dean, they won the 1936 and 1939 IHSAA State basketball championships. He returned Elkhart High School as the assistant in football, basketball and track coach in 1943 and became co-head football coach in 1944 and head track coach in 1950 upon the death of IATCCC Hall of Famer Chelsea Boone with great success during the next eighteen years. Matt’s track teams won the 1959 and 1960 Goshen Relays, the 1959, 1960 and 1964 conference championships, never lost an IHSAA Sectional, winning seventeen from 1950 -1966 (with the 1960 -1961 teaching in Germany at an U.S. Military dependents school), won three regionals 1959, 1960 and 1967, and was the IHSAA State Meet runner-up in 1954 and 1960. He coached IHSAA champions in five different events and both relays. His coaching career of thirty three years was cut short by illness and retirement followed in 1967.
