Jason Briggs - Richmond
His 1:47.00 is the fastest
800 time ever run by a native of Indiana. He has a PR of 46.82 in the 400. Jason was a 2-time IHSAA State 800 meter
champion. Ran a 1:53.38 to win in 1998
and ran a 1:52.32 to win in 1999. He
was the Indiana Gatorade Athlete of the Year in 1999 and High School
All-American.

Jo’L Gerardot - Ft. Wayne

He was a 2-time IHSAA State
Pole Vault Champion. Vaulted 16’0” to
win in 1997 and 16’0” again to win in 1998.
Jo’L was the National Indoor Runner-up in
1998 and National Outdoor Runner-up in 1997.
He vaulted over 15’0 in 36 meets and over 16’0 15 times. His PR is
16’07”.

Furnivall – Warsaw
He won the 1982 IHSAA State
Meet in 400 meters with a 47.83 and was second in the 200 with a 21.64. He also won the National Indoor
Championship in 440 in 1982 with a 49.3 and was third in the 880 with a
1:56.5. He had the fastest 300 in the US
with a 31.1. While at Purdue University,
Troy ran a
1:48.59 in the 800.

Michelle DelaVina –
Wheeler
Michelle was a 4-time IHSAA
State Champion. She won the 3200 in
1999 and 2000 with 10:48.48 and 10:37.93.
She had a PR of 10:31.16 at the Golden West Invitational. She also won the State Meet 1600 in 1999
with a 4:55.22. Her other championship
came in 1999 when she was the IHSAA Cross Country State Champion.

Collette Douglas-Liss – Valparaiso
Collette was a 2-time IHSAA
State Champion. She won the 1600 in
1991 with a 4:56.97 and had a PR of 4:53.50.
She also won the 3200 in 1991 with a 10:56.25 and had a PR of
10:49.18. She won the USA Fall Cross
Country Championships (6K) in 1999 and was runner-up in 2001. She won the USA Indoor National
Championship in the mile in 2001 and was runner-up in 2000. She won the USA National Road Championships
(5K) in 2001 and was runner-up in the National Cross Country Championships
(4K) in 2003. She was a 5-time member
of USA National teams in IAAF World Championship meets.

Chandra
Goodman - Gary Roosevelt
Chandra was a 5-time IHSAA
State Champion. She won the 100 and
200 in 1989 with 11.98 and 25.51. She
won the 200 in 1990 with a 24.50. Then
she won the 100 and 200 again in 1991 with 12.12 and 24.51. Her PR’s were
11.91 and 24.11 in 1991.

Jamie Gorrell – Woodlan
Jamie
was a 2-time IHSAA State Champion. She
won the 3200 in 1987 with a time of 11:10.16.
She had a PR of 11:00.76 in the 3200.
She also won an IHSAA State Cross Country Championship in 1986. She was in the top ten in cross country all
four years with her second place finish in 1987, fifth place finish in 1985,
and ninth place finish in 1984.

Sam Bell - Indiana
University
Coach Bell coached 22 men’s
and 4 women’s Big 10 Championship teams. He coached 189 All-Americans. His teams placed in the Top 10 in NCAA
competition 23 times. He had 19 NCAA individual champions. Coached 3 American
Record Holders and 7 Olympians. He was the distance coach for the US Olympic
Team in 1976. At Oregon State, he coached an NCAA championship cross country
team, an NCAA individual cross country champion, and a 4x800 World Record
Relay Team.

Jim was a Founding Father
of the IATCCC and a past president. He
coached the first Indiana
school boy under 9:00 in the 2 mile.
He also coached the first Indiana
school boy to throw the shot over 60’.
He coached 2 high school All-Americans and a Golden West Invitational
winner. He had multiple individual and
team Sectional and Regional champions.

Dick Shenfeld - Homestead
Dick coached 6 individual
IHSAA State Champions, 2 National Champions, 2 National Record Holders, and 1
State Record Holder. He coached 90
athletes to State Meet, with 43 making All-State. He won 10 sectionals, 1 regional, and had 3
-Top 10 team finishes. He has been an
IATCCC sectional council representative for 26 years.

Allen Shockney - Plymouth
Allen has been coaching
track and/or cross country for 44 years. He had 8 girls’ and 7 boys’ teams
win sectionals. He won 4 boys’ and 1 girls’ regional. He also won 1 boys’ semi-state and had 1
individual IHSAA State Cross Country Champion and had 4 boys’ teams place in
Top 10.

John Smith - Portage
John coached 18 Big 10
Champions, 19 All-Americans, 12 National Qualifiers, and 2 NCAA Champions at Ohio State.
He coached a 4-time Olympian to 25 USA National titles in the shot put and
discus. He coached 9 NCAA All-Americans at Southern
Illinois. He holds school and MVC indoor and outdoor shot put
records, at Southern Illinois University.
