Announcing the Boomtown Throws Clinic!

What:

  • Develop speed, power, and technique in the shot put and discus.
  • Analysis and discussion of technique, including emphasis of the psychological and physiological aspects of training and competition
  • Learn specific training and conditioning methods for future improvement
  • During the clinic athletes will be instructed in; throws mechanics, footwork drills – with and without the implements, core exercises and video analysis of throws.

When:

  • Sunday, January 14, 2:30 – 5:30 p.m.

Where

  • Struck Gymnasiums in the Horner Center on the Campus of Hanover College

Cost

  • $60 per camper

What to Bring

  • All participants should bring workout clothes to participate in the throwing drills that will be covered. Please bring your throwing shoes, a water bottle, and any snacks you may need. Please bring your own throwing implements! Hanover College will provide a limited amount of implements.

High School Coaches are welcome to attend.

What is Boomtown?

Boomtown is where the big throws reside – the throws that draw the attention of the crowd, the big splashy PR’s and the marks needed to be celebrated with a loud shout of “Boomtown”.

Monroe Central High School is looking for candidates interested in coaching boys’ and girls’ sprinters this upcoming 2018 season. GVSU Big Clinic

Grand Valley State University Big Clinic on December 16th/17th 2017.

On December 16th we will be featuring learn by doing segments in the Long Jump and weight room for power/strength athletes. Speakers will include GVSU Staff along with Olympian Justin Rodhe, USA Junior USA Coach in Olympic Lifting Dane Miller and Sean Donnelly who currently resides at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista and has been mentored by Cal Dietz. With emphasis in Specific Strength, Olympic Lifting and Triphasic training we are offering a comprehensive look into the field of strength and conditioning for strength and power athletes. We will also be handing out several free training blocks from each scheme.

Additionally that Saturday night we will be have a wammer competition featuring several NCAA Champions in the hammer and weight throws. Wammer is the weight on a 50cm long wire. This is the first and only competition of it’s kind.

The following day, Sunday will feature learn by doing and classroom segments in high jump, sprints, hurdles and shot put, discus and hammer/weight. During our lunch break we will have an elite shot put competition and the final component of the day will feature the USA indoor discus National Championships which is being funded by USATF Track and field and will feature 4-6 Olympians.

There will be high school, college and elite divisions for both the wammer and discus.

Indy Winter Track Camp

19th annual Indy winter track camp will take place on January 6-7 at the University of Indianapolis.

Each day will be 9am – 3pm.
